Job Summary Join our dynamic team as an IT Network Engineer! Under the guidance of the IT Manager-Infrastructure Services, you'll play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and maintaining computer network infrastructures.
Collaborate closely with our skilled team to enhance network efficiency, troubleshoot performance issues, and ensure the security and availability of enterprise servers and applications.
Take charge of researching, recommending, and maintaining network protocols and equipment, contributing to the seamless functioning of our network infrastructure.
Elevate your career and apply with The City of Grand Prairie! Essential Job Functions Responsible for Designing and implementing new network solutions and/or improving the efficiency of current networks.
Proactively monitors and analyzes enterprise network performance and security.
Ensures that network performance supports enterprise applications.
Develops and implements network performance and security improvements.
Develops, plans, and oversees the implementation of the enterprise network.
Establishes hardware, firmware, and software migration plans.
Designs and analyzes requirements and specifications.
Develops production testing and change control procedures.
Provides specifications for the acquisition of new network hardware and software.
Initiates and creates enterprise strategies and plans for network administration and security.
Prepares and maintains device configuration, including routine backups, long-term archives, and disaster recovery support.
Collaborates in the development and deployment of the Disaster Recovery Plan.
Participates in scheduled change management and participates in incident management as needed.
Document changes and actions in change management system and service management system.
Maximizing network performance through ongoing monitoring and troubleshooting.
Has expert knowledge of networking concepts.
Has expert experience networking PCs, Servers, Cisco network switches and VOIP.
Has expert understanding of WAN and voice protocols.
Has advanced knowledge and proficiency with installing and configuring switches, routers, firewalls, wireless controllers, wireless access points, UPS, and PDU.
Expert knowledge of routing.

, gateway, subnet mask, RIP, OSPF, EIGRP, IGRP & QoS Technologies).
Expert experience with LAN Switching (VLAN, Trunking, Port-Security, EtherChannel, Spanning-Tree protocol).
Expert understanding of TCP/UDP, DHCP, DNS and WINS protocols.
Working knowledge of physical infrastructure design including structured cabling and fiber-optic cabling.
Interacts with all IT divisions to assist in resolving problems with hardware and software products or systems and communicates networking issues with other employees and management.
Works with Telecommunications System Architects to support systems in the network infrastructure.
Responsible for configuring and maintaining firewalls and security appliances including updating virus protection software to keep data communications protected.
Develops and maintains precise network documentation, reports and presentations for management review.
Serves as a liaison between the city and the hardware/software vendor and manages the successful resolution of support cases with the vendor.
Other related duties as assigned by supervisor/manager within the department.
Regular and consistent attendance and punctuality for the assigned work hours is essential.
Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s in related field of Information Technology or related field.
Experience: 5 years or more’ experience with increasing responsibilities in network administration and engineering.
Experience supporting Cisco network infrastructure and devices is desired.
Experience supporting wireless LAN controllers and access points is also desired.
Licenses: Valid Driver's License required.
Certifications Required: ITIL certification or ability to certify within 6 months of hire.
Cisco CCNA certification required (or ability to certify within six months of employment), CCNP preferred.
Ability to obtain and maintain CJIS clearance necessary to perform job duties.
