Platform Engineer Lead The Platform Engineer Lead is a technical leader who contributes to the infrastructure and CI/CD platform design and implementation in alignment to the business strategy.
The Platform Engineer Lead delivers a platform that is resilient, highly available, secure, cost effective, and improves engineering productivity.
Overall, the Platform Engineer Lead has strong technical abilities, a sound understanding of modern infrastructure design, CI/CD design and automation, and possesses advanced knowledge and skill in implementing relevant solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibilities for the Platform Engineer Lead can vary, but should include: Act as a technical leader and point of escalation, provide support and direction to team-members and evangelize best practices and methodologies.
Lead and manage a team of individual contributor engineers and their ongoing talent development.
Act in a Product Owner role for the team, aligning priorities to the strategy and rhythm of the business.
Solve problems and continually improve within your areas of responsibility to help Agile teams ship software faster with quality.
Support the company journey of moving to modern cloud operations.
Cultivate strong working relationships with scrum teams, engineers, architects, vendors, contractors and leadership.
Stay current on applicable industry trends and integrated technologies.
QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related (equivalent experience considered).
1+ years experience in a lead or supervisory role.
3+ years experience developing and delivering software defined infrastructure in a production, public cloud, enterprise environment.
3+ years experience developing and delivering a production CI/CD platform encompassing continuous builds, integration, and delivery including automated deployment and testing.
BUSINESS ACUMEN Strong written and verbal interpersonal skills.
Excellent problem solving and analytical skills with attention to detail and driving issues to resolution.
Strong customer focus, ownership, bias for action and the ability to dive deep.
Excellent ability to align business processes and requirements with a technical implementation focused on iteration and delivery of MVP.
Proficient with implementing CI/CD best practices and patterns for delivering a solution comprised of software and infrastructure.
Understanding of branching strategies, quality gates, and separation of deployment and release.
Experience designing large-scale distributed systems.
Direct experience migrating solutions to Azure (comparable cloud platforms considered).
Write and contribute to project plans, features, and engineering level documentation.
Experience with Healthcare industry HIPAA regulations (similar regulated industry experience considered ie.
PCI, SOX, HiTRUST) Experience working in an Agile and/or SAFe environment.
TECHNICAL SKILLS Proficient with programming languages (eg.
C#, JavaScript, HCL).
Proficient with scripting languages (multiple preferred): Bash, PowerShell, and Python.
Experience with data tier languages: TSQL, PromQL, SPL (Search Processing Language), KQL (Kusto Query Language).
Experience with CI/CD tools such as git, GitVersion, npm, NuGet, Cake, gulp, Gradle, Docker, Maven, Helm, Terraform, Packer, Ansible, DSC, ArgoCD, jMeter, xUnit, SpecFlow, and SonarQube.
Proficient in modern engineering with the Kubernetes platform and related components (ie service mesh and operators) and practices (gitOps).
Able to implement security best practices in server configuration, tool development, and access controls.
Proficient with the following monitoring solutions (multiple preferred): Splunk, Prometheus/Grafana, and Azure Monitor.
Develop appropriate metrics (SLI) and monitors to ensure operational excellence for services being delivered.
Develop operational excellent standard operating procedures and run books with a bias towards automation.
Knowledgeable of storage and how to implement and manage across a variety of solutions.
Engineering large-scale Windows and Linux production environments using infrastructure as code and configuration management tools (Ansible, Terraform DSL, DSC).
Proficient with networking and troubleshooting (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, routing, firewalls, LAN/WAN, load balancing).
CERTIFICATION / TRAINING Candidates with relevant certifications are preferred, including but not limited to the following: Configuration: RHCE-Ansible, Terraform Associate Kubernetes - CKA, KCSP Linux – RHCE, CompTIA Linux+, GCUX, LPI Microsoft: Azure Administrator, Azure DevOps Engineer, Azure Architect, MCSE
